POCKLINGTON Tennis Club teams have remained on their winning roll yet again.
The Mixed B had a 6-3 win at home against Beverley & ER B with all three couples Paul Colbeck and Catherine Postlethwaite, John Mangan and Helen Whilesmith, and Andy Pearce and Mel Duncan winning two sets each.

The Mixed C team at Beeford continued their winning vein with a cut and dried 8-1 victory. Youngster, Stuart Pearce stepped in at the last minute and played a very mature and controlled game, winning all three sets with Val French, matched by Rachel Bloom and Ross Gleig.

The Mixed D finally got back that winning feeling in a closely fought home match against Driffield Rec B, winning 5-4 with a 60 to 59 game score, and three sets going to tie breaks. Darren Smith and Louise Wilkinson were top couple, winning three sets whilst Billy Bartram and Diane Flint won the other three.

The Mixed E, not to be outdone, also enjoyed an 8-1 win away at Driffield LTC. Top couple was again Helen Marsden and Adam Harvey winning 8-1, 8-5, 8-2. Helen Fairey and Richard Whilesmith also won three sets and after a three-day walking trip, a rather tired Rosanne Dane still managed to win two sets with Chris Bond.

The Ladies A had their Division 1 title hopes challenged with a tight match away on the extremely frustrating and unpredictable grass at Nafferton. It ended 5- 4 to Pocklington, with both teams winning 60 games each. Helen Whilesmith and Emma Owen picking up three close sets, Catherine Postle-thwaite and Carolyn Pearce won the other two.

The Ladies C team travelled to Hornsea and had another victory winning 7-2. Top couple were Helen Marsden and Roseanne Dane winning all three sets.

The Ladies D team were back on winning form against Driffield Rec C. Top scorers were Tash Bloom and Lizzie Sedgewick, winning 8-5 and 8-0, closely followed by Janet Leach and Lizzie Hill, winning two matches, one on tie break. Sally Whilesmith and Bridget managed one for a 5-4 victory.

The Ladies 1st team in the York league could only manage a draw against Wheldrake - a repeat of their last meeting - but it was a sweet victory for Pocklington Ladies 2 against Boston Spa, their first two couples providing tough opposition for a slightly different Pocklington team. The new pairing of Lisa Eade and Di Flint proved a success, notching up 28 games. Regulars Jean Hunter and Jenny Wood, after a slow start, got 21 games as did Rosanne Dane and Rachel Danby, giving an overall win of 67-41.

The Mens’ matches were washed away with heavy rain on Thursday but the Mens’ 2nd weekend team resumed their winning ways in their home match against Bishopthorpe 2, beating the visitors convincingly by 77 games to 31. Pocklington's number one pairing of Matt Jones and Adam Harvey scored impressively to be top scorers for the home side with their serve and return power overwhelming the opponents.
