Pocklington Ladies Rugby broke new ground when they launched the sale of their 2009 calendar in a busy week of on and off field action.
The Pocklington ladies became well known for taking part in the Channel 4 television show Supersize vs. Superskinny, with Gillian McKeith, earlier this year, trying out a ‘bum-toning’ technique.

And their experiences in front of the camera encoura
ged them to launch their artistic calendar. The team's director, Tracy Bulmer explained: " The calendar shows the girly side of a typical womens' rugby team. The players really enjoyed their TV experience and were keen to pose for the calendar. So if you don't recognise their faces you might spot their behinds".

The fund raising calendar (£5) was on sale for the first time after Pocklington Ladies game against Market Rasen which saw their remarkable comeback just fail to overhaul their more experienced visitors.

Pocklington could not cope with Market Rasen's pace early on as they ran in four tries to lead 24-0 inside the first quarter. But Pocklington then powered back into contention, scoring five second half tries through speedy wing Becca Beard, flying threequarter Vicky Smith and halfbacks Tracy Bulmer and Alex Nalson. Stacey Richardson also made a promising debut before succumbing to injury.

Market Rasen added a couple more scores but were hanging on at the end as Pocklington's fightback ran out of time as they lost 25-41.

The calendar is already selling well and the ladies team would like to thank its sponsors: Charlotte Atkinson Photography, Post Haste Printers, JWP Creers, BodyEdge, TBO investments, The Coffee Bean, Right Angle Sales, Europcar, Steve Miller Flooring, Elcocks Ltd, and Rachel MacKenzie from BodyShop.

It is available from behind the rugby club bar, from team members, or from a variety of outlets in town, including Atkinson's Delicatessen, The Coffee Bean, The Feathers Hotel and Burton's Butchers.

Pocklington's next outing will be their big game against Cambridge University on Sunday 7 December when Cambridge make their annual tour to Pocklington. Anyone interested in playing ladies rugby can contact Tracy Bulmer on 07739 515513.
