Melbourne CC took the Canon Hedley Cup with a good win over Barmby Moor inwhat was an excellent game of village cricket played as the founder of the cup intended.
Barmby Moor batted first in glorious sunshine at Wilberfoss and lost the dangerous Andy Winn to an excellent catch by Nick Boyd in the fourth over to the bowling of Greg Nesbitt.
It was left to fellow opener Barry Sheperdson to remain at the crea
se, but he lost T Smith and M Smith, both for ducks, in the seventh over bowled by Tim Blackmore.
Barmby looked in trouble on 21 for 3 but Shepherdson was joined by Richard Lazenby and the two added a further 22 runs before Lazenby was run out for 14.
Malcolm Harrison then took the wicket of Sheperdson (15) to an lbw decision and only Sam Appleton of the remaining batsmen got into double figures before being caught behind by keeper Joss Room off the bowling of Nesbitt for 11. G Anderson was run out, a catch by Nesbitt saw off A Wright and Kevin Smith was bowled by Nesbitt leaving C Blythe not out 6 and P Ward 2 not out as Barmby finished on 79-9.
Melbourne bowling was G Nesbitt 3 for 23, Tim Blackmore 3 for 30, Malcolm Harrison 1 for 9.
In reply for Melbourne Greg Nesbitt made it look like a stroll in the park and quickly knocked up 47 runs before being caught by keeper Lazenby off the bowling of Anderson.
Captain Joss Room who had supported him well finished on 18 not out and Tim Blackmore was 6 not out as Melbourne won by 9 wickets. Anderson took 1 for 25.
