Rain, rain, and more rain saw many of Pocklington Tennis Club's matches washed out last week but despite that, what an exciting last few weeks of the league season it is going to be!
The league tables last week showed Pocklington Ladies A top of Division 1, eight points clear of Malton while Pock Ladies B lie in third place level on points with second place Cherry Burton. And both the Ladies C and D teams are clear leaders in Division 4 and 5 respectively.

The Ladies C team held onto their lead when they notched another win again against Sledmere B by 5 sets to 4. Tash Bloom and Ali Smith won a crucial set 8 - 2 to win the match.

The Mixed teams are also title contenders with Mixed A unbeaten in Division 1. Mixed C top Division 3 with another sterling performance this week against Bridlington B winning 7-2, and the Pock D team lie in third place in the same division. Not to be outdone the Mixed E head Division 5. So it’s all to play for.

Most of the weekend teams were also washed out but the Men’s B managed to play. The quality of tennis in Division 2 is higher than ever and Pock Men's B is in the thick of it. Last week saw them play ex-division 1 Scarborough A. Jim Bloom was the pick of Pocklington with a true grit old man's performance. His determined attitude helped Andy Pearce to keep control of his range of power loaded shots.

Meanwhile John Mangan played some sparkling shots but inspired the opposition to play even better. He and Darren Nicholson-Smith took two sets and the other two pairs took a set each. Pock Men's B could easily have won a very tight match had they slowed play down a little rather than play to Scarborough's strength. The result was 5 sets to 4 to Scarborough, leaving Pock with 5 wins out of 9 played.
