CONTENDER Harry Matthews is to step into the ring for his third professional fight next weekend.
The 20-year-old will be heading to Sleaford, Lincolnshire to take on Barnsley's John Musgrove in a four-round light-middleweight contest.

And the rising star admits it will be his toughest test so far, moving up to fight in three-minute rounds for the first time in his young career.

Harry said: “He's a real tough journeyman and has never been stopped so it is a bit of a risk for me.

“He's been in with some really good fighters and I know he's coming for a real fight, but I am looking forward to it.”

Former Woldgate pupil Harry already has two victories under his belt, winning his opening fight on points and seeing the last stopped in the second round.

His latest opponent has an added advantage in experience, recording five wins in ten bouts and avenging three of his defeats, but the Pocklington puncher says he has been putting in extra hours at the gym to compensate.

Training at least five nights a week while holding down a job, he has spent time sparring with former IBO world light-middleweight champion Steve Conway.

“I've never trained so hard- the sparring has really helped me to get in shape," said Harry.

"My trainer has also got me doing four three-minute circuits to prepare.

"It's been really tough but it will really help.

"If I can't beat him with this amount of training then I don't think I'll ever beat him."

There are still some tickets left for the evening at Northgate Leisure Centre in Sleaford.

They are priced £30 and £40. For tickets or details ring Harry on (01759) 306055.
