A FRIENDLY face at Pocklington Police Station has stepped down after more than 33 years' service.
Pamela Atkinson MBE retired from her role as an assistant at the George Street station on Friday.
Although not an officer, her time was devoted to dealing with public inquiries, answering calls and general administrative duties.
Due to celebrate her 65th birthday this week, the Pocklington resident has now opted finally to hang up her uniform.
She said: "On the whole it's been very good and I've really enjoyed it.
"My job's changed over the years; computers have made a big difference and the crimes are a lot different to when I first started.
"I will definitely miss it and the people who I've worked with."
Born in Burnby, Mrs Atkinson has lived in the area all her life, and was based in Pocklington throughout her career with the police.
Regularly working above and beyond the call of duty, she received a Police Commendation for her work from former Chief Constable of Humberside Police, David Westwood.
Her proudest moment came in 2005 when she was made a Member of the British Empire (MBE) for her services to police work.
She was also awarded a commemorative plaque by Pocklington Town Council in recognition of her work.
Sergeant Pete Rogers, the top-ranking officer working out of Pocklington station, said: "Pam was a very valued member of staff and her leaving Pocklington Police Station is truly the end of an era here.
She will be very much missed by all the staff and the local community. On a personal level, it has been a pleasure and a privilege to work with such a dedicated, community-minded individual. She's unique."
Mrs Atkinson said: "I have no plans or holidays. I'm just going to enjoy life and do as I like."
