POCKLINGTON'S first Book Festival has been described as an amazing success by organisers.
The festival, which finished this week, was well attended and more than 300 tickets were sold. Nine of the 15 ticketed events sold out.
Sara Waddington, who organised the event, said it would return next year.
Mrs Waddington, who runs Simply Books, said : "I'm thrilled with the response we have had. Everyone attending the events told me they had a wonderful time and have asked me to do it all again next year.
"I have been approached by several authors, poets and publishers who would like to attend next year.
''m so grateful to the people of Pocklington for supporting this event the way they have done and also to all the people who travelled from York, Beverley, Scarborough, Driffield, Bridlington and Goole."
Events that were held throughout the week ranged from Yorkshire Author Storytime with special guests Gervase Phinn, Valerie Wood and Matt Brash, to a teddy bears' picnic and book trail to a Pocklington history and heritage walk.
Mrs Waddington said that, as well as putting Pocklington on the map and introducing new people to the town, it also had its advantages for local people.
She thanked businesses and individuals in the town who took part.
She said: "I believe it was a great thing for Pocklington. Many people who were not local noticed how many lovely shops there are here and the book trail we organised encouraged people to seek out the shops they may not have otherwise found.
Several locals told me they had been to shops they didn't know existed. I feel very strongly about local people using local shops and I'm thrilled to say that every thing that was needed for the festival was bought in Pocklington."
