Davis eases to victory

DAVID Davis has won the Haltemprice and Howden by-election - gaining 70 per cent of the vote.
He polled 17, 113 votes of the 24, 421 votes cast. The former MP had resigned in opposition to the Government's plans to increase the detention of terror suspects. He was one of 26 candidates to contest the seat.

Second place went to the Green Party's Shan Oakes with 1,758 votes and English Democrat Joanne Robinson was third with 1,714 votes.
Turnout was 34 per cent.
