A POPULAR bobby who spent years pounding the pavements of Pocklington has announced his retirement.
Pc Chris French, who is more commonly known locally as "Frenchy", recently stepped down from the force after 30 years' service.
The 48-year-old, who lives in Barmby Moor was part of the Pocklington team for more than 25 years.

He said: "I have seen a lot of changes over the years, in the sense that technology and tools have improved to help the police do their work.

"Attitudes of the public towards police have not changed though, although in the rural areas, police do seem to be appreciated more.

"I'm certainly going to miss the camaraderie you have with the people you work with and the teamwork." Sergeant Pete Rogers from Pocklington Police Station paid tribute to the retired officer.

He said: "Chris is a very familiar face both in Pocklington and the surrounding area. Over the years, he has very much been one of the 'characters' at Pocklington Police Station.

"It was always a pleasure to work with Chris. ]

"His local knowledge is second to none, and he will be greatly missed by his colleagues here at Pocklington Police Station."
