Yorkshire golf: Tom Broxup continues to reign at Cookridge Hall
Although, in truth, the hesitation was not as eloquent as his ultimate response.
“I always think about what’s next rather than what’s behind me,” said Broxup, unwittingly providing a clue as to why he is gathering silverware with a frequency that hints at a touch of kleptomania.

And he leads the Yorkshire Order of Merit for the season, helped by victory in the Hawksworth Trophy.
But Broxup was quick to deflect praise from himself onto the man who came second behind him in the Cookridge Hall club championship, former professional Adam Frontal.
The pair played together in both rounds and Broxup ultimately won by four shots with rounds of 70 77 to Frontal’s 74 77.

Strong winds meant conditions at Cookridge were, at times, “brutal” but Leeds Union player Broxup laid the foundations for his hat-trick of titles with a two-under-par 70 and when Jez Howarth – who had been just two back at lunch – triple bogeyed the second in the afternoon, he knew a third crown was his to lose.
“I wouldn’t say I couldn’t have blown it, but I try to take it one shot at a time and I think when I went five ahead, it didn’t relax me, but I just knew it would be tough to take it off me,” said Broxup.
