Spurs hit by loss of star Huddlestone
The decision to go under the knife came following an extensive consultation period and will rule the 23-year-old out of key Champions League group fixtures and the club's busy Christmas fixture schedule.
"Following consultation with several independent ankle specialists, it has been determined that Tom Huddlestone will undergo surgery on his right ankle," read a club statement.

Bought from Derby County, Huddlestone has been a virtual ever-present this season but in recent weeks had seen his game time rationed due to the ankle problem, which has required a series of injections.
He joins a growing injury list at White Hart Lane, which has already left Redknapp without the likes of Ledley King, Michael Dawson, Jermain Defoe, Jonathan Woodgate, Aaron Lennon, Jamie O'Hara and Robbie Keane.
Wolves striker Kevin Doyle has backed himself to end the goal drought which has left him without a Premier League goal this season.

Hide AdDoyle, Wolves' leading scorer last season, has failed to hit the target in 12 league games this term. But the Republic Of Ireland international is convinced his luck in front of goal will change sooner rather than later.
He said: "I've had spells like this before. There's no point being depressed about it.
"You have to wake up tomorrow and try to go again.
"I'll keep working hard, keep doing the right things and my luck will change."
