Speaking after the game, Whites boss Marcelo Bielsa admitted his frustrations with the result, but singled out star midfielder Kalvin Phillips for praise, following his absence with injury. He claimed: “It’s very difficult to play the way Kalvin played today after having been out for a month.
“He didn’t commit any errors in the general line. I saw him defend well and I didn’t see him make mistakes with the ball.
“Perhaps at the start of the game he was a decisive factor in that we played so well in those initial minutes. And in the second half he gave balance to the team.”
Meanwhile, down in the Championship, the relegation battle looks set to involve Yorkshire sides Sheffield Wednesday and Rotherham United, while Huddersfield Town are looking to push away from the drop zone.
In stark contrast, Barnsley are making a stunning bid for the play-off places, and currently sit in sixth place, two points clear of Bournemouth in seventh.
