For a bit of fun in the meantime, we fired up the latest edition of Football Manager, and simulated the game into the future. We had a look at the starting XI, key subs and manager it predicts will be on show for the Tigers on the opening day of the 2020/21 season.
1. New season, same division
Football Manager predicts the Tigers will just hang on to their second tier status, and spend the summer crafting a major squad overhaul. They open the 2020/21 season away to Bristol City. (Photo by Nigel Roddis/Getty Images) Photo: Nigel Roddis
2. GK: Ben Foster
A mere £230k is enough to land the ex-England international from Watford. He may be in his twilight years, but the super stopper should excel again in the Championship. (Photo by Richard Heathcote/Getty Images) Photo: Richard Heathcote
3. RB: Javi Manquillo
Oh, a fine bit of business here. The ex-Liverpool right-back, worth a tasty £9m, arrives on loan from newly-monied Newcastle United, and goes straight into the first team. (Photo by Mark Runnacles/Getty Images) Photo: Mark Runnacles
4. CB: Reece Burke
Burke keeps his spot in the starting line-up, and looks set for a solid season after a lovely run of form in pre-season. (Photo by Ashley Allen/Getty Images) Photo: Ashley Allen
