Sea creates spectacle on seafront
The sea provided a spectacular sight for crowds on Scarborough seafront yesterday as gale force winds created a captivating end to the holiday season.
But coastguards warned those enjoying the heaving seascape to take care as beaches took a battering from tidal conditions powerful enough to injure anyone foolish enough to venture into the surf.
A Humber coastguard spokesman said the sea was being whipped up by unusually strong south-easterly winds, in excess of gale force at times. "They are easing now which is good thing," he added.
